Srinagar, May 15 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government has formed a committee to develop a comprehensive policy for the repair and renovation of buildings situated within 200 meters of Dal Lake. This policy, as per the government order, will specifically address structures that were legitimately built before the imposition of a ban by the High Court of J&K on July 19, 2002. The committee will be headed by the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir and will include several key officials from various government departments. As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the members of the committee include the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, the Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Vice Chairmen of the Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) and the Srinagar Development Authority, the Director of Tourism Kashmir, and other relevant experts. The committee’s primary objectives are to establish criteria for determining which buildings were constructed legally before the imposition of the ban. Create a framework for granting permissions for repair, renovation, and reconstruction of these buildings, ensuring they comply with the relevant environmental and regulatory norms. Recommend measures to promote the use of sustainable construction technologies and proper waste disposal during repairs and renovations to protect the ecological balance of the area. Set guidelines to maintain the aesthetic appeal and heritage character of the region during construction activities. Propose further steps for improving the sustainability and safety of buildings around the Dal and Nigeen Lakes—(KNO)
